The Mould King 16055 review: an impressive mid-age world central lighthouse in Lord of The Rings style with 2199 pieces, no prints but stickers.

Today, we’re taking a closer look at the first Mould King set on Brick Anatomy. This is the 16055, which only came onto the market in November/December 2023.

Mould King 16055 review

Important to know: I built the set last year and published a video about it. So, this review will not cover individual steps in detail.

Mould King 16055 Review

Again, my wallet kindly sponsored the Mould King 16055 set for the Christmas holidays; thus, it’s a non-sponsored review. I bought the set from Amazon.de for around 90€. The delivery was fast, as usual, and came in the original box.

Mould King 16055 review box

It came in a very classic black box. It’s reminiscent of the design of the boxes of the adult sets from LEGO. So, not a packaging highlight but at least a stylish box and not the usual brown box.

The key features of this set are:

Product nameMid-Age World Central Lighthouse
Age14+
Set dimensions27,5 x 50 cm
Product serial number16055

The set is divided into six building steps, each divided into several bags. There is also an extensive manual in the box with a sticker sheet.

According to the MK box, the set was created in collaboration with a designer, but he is unknown. There is only a signature on the box.

Construction Summary

Construction begins with the layering of black plates. GoBricks produces them and has excellent quality.

Building 1

A large part of the set consists of building walls made of white and light blue-ish grey masonry bricks.

Building 2

Brick-built modules come on top of these, which form the tower. A repetitive task as you build the same module over and over again.

Besides the windows, fantasy decorations in matt gold are also installed. Here, Mould King advertises something different on the packaging. On this, you can clearly see shiny gold; in reality it is only matt, which is a shame.

building

Additional decoration with technic parts in light blueish grey is installed on each module. This, too, repeats itself like the marmot every day.

The red and gold elements built on the walls provide some contrast in terms of color and the construction experience.

Then, the curvature of the modules is created, on the one hand, by the construction of the lower walls and, on the other hand, by the clamps with which they are connected. It’s not a perfect solution because the clamp mechanism often falls off. Attach it slowly, and it should work.

Mould King 16055 review 3

The tower consists of two almost identical halves. The second one is built 90% the same except for minor changes. For example, you put a modeled column frame on the floor of it. Otherwise, it’s more or less the same construction of the modules and decoration. So very repetitive

The Top

Once you have completed the tower walls, you come to the upper part of the Mould King 16055 mid-age world central lighthouse. This begins in construction phase 5 and continues smoothly in phase 6.

White parts dominate here, especially in the first half, and black in the second half. This construction is more varied and fun.

Exciting is the designer’s chosen construction technique. You layer various parts to achieve the shape of the “crown” of the lighthouse.

The striking elements that give the lighthouse its final look are attached to this black block in the final steps. Unfortunately, they are made of motor elements that have almost no clatch power. Unusual for GoBricks parts. It could be that some parts are from another manufacturer.

And then there is the crystal. Anyone who hoped it would be illuminated is wrong. These are milky bricks that you assemble into a crystal. Unfortunately, it’s never 100% straight; it’s always slightly crooked.

Light Kit To Forget

Speaking about illumination. Yes, the Mould King 16055 features a light kit with a big battery box and tiny LEDs. In theory, a nice addition. Thumbs up. But practically a failure. Yes, light kit included, but this is DIY.

Unlike Funwhole and other manufacturers, Mould King leaves the installation entirely up to the builder. There is no instruction part on how to attach them. They are also very flimsy and unpleasant to assemble. To be honest, then it’s better not to include a light kit.

Mould King 16055 Review Conclusion

So that’s the Mould King 16055 mid-age world central lighthouse. It is a large and bulky set. At 27.5cm x 50cm, it is not a small set. You have to have some space for that. It has a beautiful shape firmly based on a fantasy world like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones…

Mould King 16055 review

An impressive, eye-catching tower/lighthouse from the outside but a flop from the inside. No interior, just the walls. It is, therefore, of limited use for children for playing and is more suitable for display.

The building experience was just as divisive as the set. It was fun to build but also repetitive at times and, therefore, a bit boring, especially the wall modules. But that shouldn’t be seen as too negative. It’s a tower, and it’s hard to build a tower in a more varied way.

Different the top area. It was nicer and more fun to build. In summary, a very mixed building experience. Brick quality and colors on LEGO level, if not better. Except for two parts that had little clatch power. Otherwise, top-notch GoBricks quality.

inside

Overall, a beautiful, impressive lighthouse that Mold King has published here for fantasy friends. It’s fun to build, with quality bricks and manual at the Champions League level, and at a very good price.

Where there is positive there should also be criticism. This includes the flimsy, not-documented light kit as well as the stickers.
